Director’s Commentary?
I’ve been wondering recently about quite a leftfield idea I’ve had for using ipadio. There have been a number of instances now where ipadio’s live streaming technology has been used to provide commentary for sports matches (in fact, ipadio was born out of a desire to commentate live on a hockey match)… but I’m wondering, what’s to stop me using ipadio for another sort of commentary – a director’s commentary?
Next week I’m hopefully going to be a contestant on a TV gameshow (don’t worry, they’re not sending me into the Big Brother house!), with it being broadcast a few months later. So I’m thinking – when it is broadcast and when I tell all of my friends that I’m going to be on TV, why not also broadcast a live commentary to them, wherever they are? Even friends watching me on the BBC iPlayer (an online TV catch-up service, a bit like Hulu for any American readers) will be able to join in as all live streams are archived on ipadio as MP3s which can be played back.
Not only will it make the TV show more exciting, but I’ll be able to pre-emptively explain why I didn’t know the answers to certain questions. Whilst me on the TV might be saying something like “I think the answer is Paris”, the live me, being broadcast live over ipadio will be able to shout “No, I didn’t really think Paris was the capital of Germany! I’m not that stupid, I swear!”.
…And then this made me wonder, what’s to stop me offering my own alternative commentary track to the Eurovision Song Contest? Now that Terry Wogan has quit not everyone is happy with his replacement… And what’s to stop me from offering my own alternative commentary track to Question Time? I mean, beyond the fact that it’ll mostly be the sound of me tearing my hair out.
I will definitely be doing the director’s commentary when I’m on the gameshow though – I might even blog about it ahead of time if I decide that it won’t be too humiliating!
Can anyone reading this come up with an even more leftfield use for ipadio’s live streaming technology? I’d love to hear it.
