iPad? That name sounds like something else…

You can’t fail to have noticed that yesterday Apple unveiled a new device – the iPad. I can’t speak for the rest of the company, but I think it’s pretty interesting – not least because it sounds a bit like ‘ipadio’ – in fact, we actually own the domain name ipad.io. We use it for our short-URLs that we send to Twitter, as each tweet is limited to 140 characters.

More interestingly is that the new gadget runs on the same system as the iPhone – in fact, it basically is just a really big iPhone. And this means that if you were ask the question “Can I record phlogs on my iPad?”, we can already say “There’s an app for that!” – as all iPhone apps are automatically compatible.

I’ve also enjoyed listening to Steve Dembo’s thoughts on the device – he has some really interesting ideas for ways to improve it in the future, and how it might work in an educational context:

And now: a challenge! Who can be the first of our users to record a phlog using the iPad? And who will be the first to send us a photo of ipadio running on iPad? There’s prizes, but I’ll post it up on the blog as it’ll be fun to see!

Alot of bloggers not really happy with the new iPad.There was just 2 much hype over it and lots of people got turned off.You see, I can actually see great deal of the cool potential of the gizmo. Third-party applications for playing music, games, newsprints and magazine and books, tons of good stuff, but they failed to sell it properly (aside from the books). It feels rather unfinished

The iPad is one of the best things of apple. After the iPhone I like it to surf with the iPad. The idea of this product is good, but it can be a little bit bigger.
