Snow Day? S’No Problem – ipadio for remote learning?
Millions of people woke up in Britain this morning to be confronted with a landscape covered in snow – and as a consequence, travel has become difficult, schools have been closed and the sound of British people talking about the weather has been replaced with the noise of chattering teeth, as it’s jolly cold out there.
Schools being closed though is no reason why the learning should stop – especially when ipadio technology is available! One cool potential implementation for ipadio would be to use our live streaming to broadcast lessons directly into student’s homes.

Because ipadio works just using normal phones – the teacher can simply call up from their own home (on a landline or mobile) and broadcast live online to students at their computers. And of course, all of the usual ipadio bells and whistles are present (though no noise when the teacher is talking, please) – lessons will be archived for playback afterwards too!
When I mentioned it on Twitter earlier, someone suggested that not everyone has a computer and broadband, and in some rural areas mobile phone coverage isn’t great. Whilst this is true, one cool thing we can do with ipadio is broadcast back to phones too – so that students could be phoned and listen in on their landline – as ipadio really does just work over just the phone networks!
We’ve already seen extensive use of ipadio in education augmenting classroom activity… maybe this is the next logical step?
