Thupr’s content creation workshop at Social Media Week London

Last Friday I spent the day at the rather fancy Charring Cross hotel in central London (fancy to the point where they play classical music in the corridors – and not just as background music in a TV show to illustrate how fancy the hotel is). I was there for a Thupr event that ipadio’s older brother Nemisys was sponsoring, on Content Creation. It was all part of Social Media Week London.

The line-up was varied and interesting. Matt Gardner from Clear Blue Productions kicked things off talking about how to shoot video for the web – and make it look for not much money, and was followed by John Duffy from Nemisys, who showed off Nemisys’s exciting new ‘Vodpods‘ technology – which got the audience involved in testing. Then there was Tim Stott who told us what he learned from the 2010 World Cup in terms of producing video for mobile phones, and the various challenges he encountered.

Shehzaad Shams

Next up was our CEO, Dr Mark Smith, talking about how ipadio has been taken to – focusing especially on what’s happened in Haiti – and then our friend Shehzaad Shams from Amnesty International spoke about how Amnesty are using ipadio and social media as part of their ‘demand dignity’ project.

Finally things were rounded off by Rob Shepherd who explained the art of the press release – and how to use them to try and get all of the audio and video content you’ve produced some attention.

Drawnalism

My favourite thing about the event though was that it was illustrated throughout by the guys from Drawnalism – who sat at the side drawing cartoons representing the discussions.

I’ll try and get some audio of the talks up soon too!
