Vancouver 2010 from the citizen’s perspective
The 2010 Winter Olympics kicks off later today in Vancouver, Canada. It’s perhaps the first Games to truly embrace social media in the proper way – after all nearly everyone is carrying around a camera with them these days, so everyone is a potential journalist. The games’ organisers have responded to this by allowing people to self-accredit themselves as citizen journalists.
Dave Olson is a veteran podcaster and Vancouver native so is obviously the perfect person to be phonecasting from the Olympics – he recorded his first broadcast earlier at the site of a protest, giving us an insight into just what is happening on the ground. He uploaded it using our iPhone app as soon as it happened giving a sense of immediacy that pre-recorded podcasts simply can’t match.
It certainly sounds as though it’s going to be an exciting few weeks!
