Why not edit your phonecasts and add a title and description?
As you might know, there’s three different ways of getting your voice heard on ipadio – you can call a number on your phone and broadcast, upload an MP3 through our website, or use our iPhone and Android apps to record and upload. With the latter two methods, when you upload your recording you get the option to add a title, description and other “metadata” (as we nerds call it). This is useful because it will tell people what they’ll get when they click play – and may even encourage them to do so. It’s also good for search engines – people will be more likely to find you on Google if you include tags about what you’re talking about!
When you call up to phonecast, you get the benefits of it being the quickest (it’s live!) and easiest (from any phone!), but you don’t get to give your phonecast a title and description. Our automated systems have an educated guess at what your phonecast is about, but it’s not always perfect – so why not edit your phonecast’s details afterwards?
To do this, simply head over to your profile (login to ipadio and click the big “My Profile” button at the top) and you’ll see a list of all of your phonecasts – on the right there’s an “Edit” button, so give this a click.
You’ll then be taken to a page where you can add metadata. It’s here you can add the following details for a phonecast:
- Title
- Description
- Transcript (Spinvox will have a go at converting your phonecast, but you can tidy it up if there’s any errors here)
- Tags
- Attach photos (up to 4!)
- Geographic Location
- Download, edit, and upload audio
This will all provide extra context for your phonecast – as well as make things much prettier. As much as I like our default image of the little man standing by the phone, it’s much better when your phonecasts have a relevant photo attached!
If you have our iPhone or Android apps, you can also manage this meta-data on the move. Simply go to the “Your Calls” tab in the app, choose the phonecast you’d like to add metadata to and choose “edit”, and you can do it all on there too.

Just a note on Google – we’re showing up in Google’s search results in a few hours now, so ipadio can be the best way to get to a trending search term quickly.
Of course, we’ll continue to work on things, and who knows, in the end ipadio might get to the stage where we’re showing for real time search too, but we’ve a way to go on that score yet!!
